Description
The Westfield UTC renovation and expansion project includes 1.5 million square feet of new shopping, two new parking garages, and transit center to tie into the planned San Diego Trolley extension. The LEED Gold project adds 389,150 square feet of net new retail shops to the existing center located along Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive. Two new parking structures were constructed to accommodate the increase in sales area: the 5 story north garage, and the 5 story south garage, adjacent to the new Nordstrom’s department store along Genesee Avenue. The new transit hub includes bus and future light rail access to downtown San Diego. Combined the parking structures are 470,000 square feet. TITAN AEC provided consulting services centered on the BIM coordination to ensure the trade contractors were not clashing with other systems within the project.  TITAN AEC led weekly calls with trade partners and reported back to design & construction teams at Unibail Rodamco Westfield.  TITAN AEC piloted the use of cloud technologies such as Autodesk BIM 360 on this project.  Through the implementation of design & construction technologies from Autodesk, URW was able to avoid costly change orders and rework through the use of virtual design & construction (VDC).
